🏍️ Flex vs Freedom
Motorcycle ownership = a second set of payments for a seasonal toy.
$350/mo all-in (payment, insurance, gear, maintenance, storage). Ridden ~30 days a year in most climates. Fun — but it's quietly costing you years of FI. Move the sliders. Watch your FI Age change.

Cheap to buy, deceptively expensive to keep
The sticker price is the easy part. Quality gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, boots) runs $1k–2k up front, sport-bike insurance can rival a car, and tires plus chains plus valve adjustments add up fast for what's often a 6-month-a-year machine.
If a motorcycle replaces a car as your daily commuter, the math can genuinely work — lower fuel, lower payment, cheaper parking. The trap is the bike that's purely recreational and parked nine months of the year.
Owning a fun, additive toy is a perfectly valid choice. The point is to see the FI Age trade clearly first, then decide on purpose — not by accident.
Frequently asked questions
Isn't a motorcycle cheaper than a car?
To buy, often yes. To keep, not always: gear, specialty insurance, frequent tire and chain replacement, and seasonal storage narrow the gap. The savings are real only if it actually replaces car trips.
What about resale value?
Some models hold value well, but most depreciate like cars and mileage matters more. Treat any resale as a bonus, not a plan — and never as a reason it 'pays for itself.'
